Before booking, ask whether a referral or doctor's letter is needed, because requirements differ between practices and how a visit is funded. Ask for the total expected cost before booking, separating the consultation from any study or device fee. Find out whether the first assessment leads to a home sleep test or an in-lab overnight study, and how long results take. If the practice sits inside a larger medical centre, ask which building and floor to go to. Ask who reviews the study results and when you will be told what they show. Find out whether the practice runs a structured sleep programme and how many sessions it involves. It is worth asking whether the practice deals with the kind of sleep problem you have, since some clinics focus on particular conditions. Confirm fees, availability and location directly with the practice, as directory listings are not updated in real time.
